81 police special fixed mag

I just bought a model 81 police special but what's odd is it's a fixed mag not the 15 or 5 round clip it also does not have the police dept engraved I originally bought this gun not knowing it was a police special and was planning on using it to hunt with but if this is something significant I would like to put it up or sell it to a collector any info and a idea of what it might be worth would be appreciated thanks also posted this on Remington society forum with pics I couldn't get them to attach on this forum

Here is Hall5252's rifle. This is an authentic Model 81 "Special Police". The mystery is the magazine. It appears to be a very early Model 8 type (neither side has a side spring or provision for one). It would seem, this rifle may have originally been equipped with a detachable magazine and it was removed and replaced at some point?
