Had a fun trip at the cabin with my parents today, a little bit of shooting and some clean up.

I took my 25 Rem Model 8 and my 300 Sav. Model 81.

I recently did barrel shroud maintenance on my 25 and I wanted to tune the sights on it. A little bit to the right and down put me where I needed to be. My 300 Savage I replaced the factory rear sight with a Marbles around a month "or more" back. To my surprise the replacement sight kept my zero dead on "you can't ask for any better than that"!

Here's a couple photos from the trip. BTW no old ammo was used today, that vintage "dogbone" box was used only to spice up the photo!

Sadly my weekend pretty much sucked! One thing after another that culminated in me getting rear ended yesterday with whiplash today!

Sounds like a fun trip, shooting an 8 and an 81. It looks like you have a nice shooting setup , too. I hope that you were able to shred that target.

When we shoot at the cabin, we shoot in an old rock quarry, at about 50 yards. We punch some holes in paper, but shoot a lot of plastic bottles filled with water for explosive effect, as well as "premium" targets like cans of out of date pie filling, left over RediWhip, and my personal favorite: a can of old Crisco. Sometimes we will spring for a case of cheap strawberry soda. Very fun to shoot. Plus we are saving people from tooth decay by shooting the soda.

Hey Dan. Hows the crisco react, sounds interesting.

I do enjoy shooting water filled cans with the
.22 calibers, haven't done much cans with centerfire. I should give that a go, I like reactive targets!

Here's the targets. You can tell which holes match what caliber and also see the progression of my adjusting for the 25. I can cut holes with the 300 savage with a regular rear sight, i couldnt do that well with the 25 using a peep though.

The Crisco reacts to a high velocity round by exploding in a geyser of grease, twenty feet in the air. It was a full, sealed can. It was past its expiration date, it had been pushed back to the back of the shelf and forgotten.

Those are really nice groups, especially with iron sights. 50 yds?, 100 yds?

Thanks for the compliment. I was shooting at 35 yards that day. I need bigger stickers if i wanted to shoot at 100, even 50 yards is nice to have 3", I only have 1" and 2" dots at the moment.
