"I have this old gun my Dad left me"--:)

It is a " .35REM", "Manufactured by the Remington Arms Co, Illion, NY USA, Brownings Patents Oct 9, 1900, Oct 16, 1900, July 3, 1902"
Ser # 1797----------------presumably a Mod 8?-----but there is no Model # on it anywhere.
Still a great gun but would appreciate any info you could furnish to verify it is in fact a Model 8--did they just not stamp the Model # on these early guns?
Thanks for your assistance!

Howdy fullcurlram!

You stumbled into the right place. Plenty of knowledgeable members here always willing to help out.

If your rifle is serial # 1797, you have a first year production Model 8 manufactured in 1906! Now technically, at the time the rifles were referred to as the "Remington Autoloading Rifle" later dubbed the "Model 8", hence no model markings. But it's a Model 8.
