Model 8 - Factory Checkered "A" Grade

Post by 81police »

This rifle, although with a tapped receiver, has a lot going for it. Was certainly a wealthy man's rifle once upon a time. The combination of expensive sights, the factory checkering, the sling eyelets. As cool as an A grade gets!

I agree with you, Cam, it is a cool rifle with a lot going for it, albeit the wood is a bit worn. I actually put my money where my mouth is and bid on it yesterday. Not too outrageous of a bid, mind you-I would bet that I don't get it without upping my bid, but we shall see. I don't usually go overboard on GB anymore, just when I see one in person that I have to have. Then Jackitis can take hold.... I do like to follow the occasional special Model 8 online just to see where the market is at the moment.

If I get outbid, hopefully it will be a forum member who gets it, I would like to see what they do with the rifle.

Do you happen to know what that 3 hole scope mount would fit?

Thanks.

I just checked the bid history, and it is 54bullseye that has also bid on this checkered A grade. Good luck John! I hope you get it.

Chas1949-
At first, I thought that also. The Williams side mount sight has only 1" of separation from the center of the first to the last screw hole. The screw spacing on the rifle in the auction appears to be greater than the Williams.

Very cool rifle!

I am truly sorry that John or Bob did not get this rifle. I just stuck a lowball bid on it before I left for an Alaskan vacation-I never considered myself a serious bidder.

Anyhow, I think that all is fair when bidding at auctions, and I would never take it personally if someone was bidding against me. It just means that they want the item too. I am truly happy for someone who wins an auction, even if I am outbid. Besides there is always another rifle out there just waiting for a new home. "You can't win 'em all"....
