Rebarreling

Post by GuideGun »

Has anyone taken a barrel blank and rebarreled one of these rifles? I understand it wouldn't be cheap, cost isn't an issue. I'm just curious if it can be done. I know there'd be quite a bit of machining needed on a barrel blank to make it work.

I don't have a clue who did the work, but I bought a rather well used Model 8 that has a replacement barrel

Bet that was interesting when you disassembled the shroud.

Pretty cool how the prior owner and or smith kept the firearm in action using the Winchester barrel. I wonder what reamer was used.

How's it shoot?

What was really interesting was that the barrel would not move in the shroud when doing a function test!!
It was totally gummed up, after clean up I found the exterior of the barrel quite pitted - the bore is pretty good however!
Haven't shot this one so I can't speak to that.

I've bought a couple of these things where the exterior of the barrel was heavily corroded. Didn't seem to affect function. As long as they could go back and forth in the jacket they worked.
