.25-35 Rem with odd trigger guard and buffer spring

Post by cantgrowup »

Picked this ".25-35 Rem" marked Model 8 up on GB last week (SN 195xx) which dates to 1909. Something that looks odd is a small oval cut-out in the trigger guard immediately below the trigger. Any thoughts?

And when I tore the gun down today... this is what I found for a .25 Rem buffer spring and washer. A sleeve of wood and a split washer.

It just goes to show you that you never know what you'll find inside these 100+ year old guns. Every one that you buy sight unseen is a "pig in a poke". Okay... this little piggy is going to need a .25 Rem buffer spring and spacer washer(s) if needed. Anyone that has one for sell please contact me at cantgrowup@hotmail.com.

Cool score on the early stamped 25 cal. I believe you mean 165xx.

I saw that one on broker, I can't figure out what the hole is there for. I'm not sure what that hole would've accomplished to help? Atleast it doesn't look done poorly.

Good luck in your searches.

I've only seen one "25 buffer" come up on the auction pages in all my searching.

There is always the gamble when buying in general, doesn't even have to be online sales. Hope you get it up and running sooner than later.

I had a similar instance with a barreled assembly I purchased off of ebay. Everything was looking great until I tipped the shroud down to dump the contents. Wouldn't you know there was no buffer spring at all! RATS! Anyway, by the help of a forum member I was able to make it complete again.

Regarding the wood spacer...this is a great thread to read as it's similar musings with lots of photos...
