New Hand at the Great 8

Post by Intellivore »

Greetings, my fellow lovers of old guns!

I have recently become the proud caretaker of a Model 8, 59000 series, in 35 Remington.

She's in great shape, and has several departures from the traditional design. To include a rear peep, of unknown make, amd a sling swivel stud on the barrel shroud.

One of my goals is to try and get one in every caliber, or, failing that, make a switch barrel collection from bits and bobs.

This is going to be the second oldest firearm I caretake, the oldest being an A.J. Aubrey single-shot hammergun, the youngest being a 1967 example of an Ishapore 2A1.

Thank you all for the wonderful resources and knowledge base you have created here!

Hey Intellivore,

Welcome to the forum. It sounds like you may be in for a case of “jackitis”.  There is a wealth of information on the forum and if you don’t see what you are looking for, just ask. There are a lot of good guys who will be glad to respond to your questions. You shouldn’t have any trouble finding the additional rifles you are seeking, buying them may be another thing.if you can post some pictures of your rifle, we would like to see them.

Regards,

Trust me, Jack, I've had Jackitis for years, ever since I began my journey into the world of Iron and Wood!

Welcome from another 8 noob. Still on the hunt for the just right rifle though. Bid on a couple only to find my bids wanting. One or two come up for sale every day or so.

I lucked out, I walked into my LGS and, well... heres the Cliff's Notes:

'Hey! Rudy! Lookit this! We just got her in!'

I proceed to get squeal like a school girl over a 1928 Model 8, and put it on layaway, the tag price of 650 freedom eagles kinda left me no choice...

Damn you, Steve. You know me too damn well!

Gettin played like a fiddle by my LGS is a great feeling. They know I gravitate to old and in need of love guns.

Monday I make the last payment, and go get a new gun cabinet to boot.
