My 2018 Kansas buck

Post by 54bullseye »

I have been hunting the early muzzle loading season in Kansas every year since 1999 and have shot many nice bucks out there !! We just hunt private farm lands in south central Kansas and we have a lot of different spots to choose from as I have a friend who is an "agronomist" he gets paid to check farms and fields for insects, when to plant, what to plant, when to harvest and so on so he has many farms to hunt and is in the fields daily !!! He has some good spots the best of which he saves for him self, his son and best friend to hunt later in the rifle season.

The weather during the early Muzzle loader season is usually very hot during the day mid 90s is not unusual and wind can be strong. Season starts in early September usually around the 12th or so.

September 17th of 2018 was the highlight of my Whitetail hunting career for sure !!!!!!!!!!
This buck showed up about 300 yards from me with about a half hour of shooting light left. He slowly moved into about 110 yards in the next 15 minuets and I made a nice double lung shot on him. He ran about 50 yards to my left and fell just out of sight.

I felt like I did when I was a kid shooting my first deer again LOL !!!! It was great !!

Deer weighed just over 190 lbs dressed and green, gross scored 205 5/8 inches he had 20 scoreable points one of which was a nice drop tine !!! The buck of my life time for sure.

Thanks for looking !!! John Taylor

PS I shoot a 50 cal. TC Encore with 3- 50 grain pyrodex pellets and TC 50 cal. sabot. I have a 3X9X40 mm Trijicon scope on it which is great for low light situations.

Brute of a buck! Thank you for sharing these memories and grand deer.

I too have hunted using a 3x9x40 Trijicon for 10+ years! Awesome scope.

That is an impressive buck, to say the least. A monster, for sure.
