2022 Model 8 & 81 Prices ????????

Post by 81police »

Hello all,

We have a page on our site that is quite old, "2012 Blue Book Values". A LOT has changed since then. I would like to get a consensus from those who watch auction selling prices (not necessarily listing prices) and update this page. Here's the info I'm looking, no longer specifically based on an exact percent condition, but the range of prices. Thank in advance for all who help!

Model 8 "A" Grade Value Range:

Model 81 "A" Grade Value Range:

Model 8/81 Police Rifles:

Model 81 FBI Rifles:

A grade being standard grade rifle I assume?

Here in Canada (in Canadian dollars), at auction;
Seeing basic Model 8s in average condition going for $800-$1500 + fees and shipping which can add another 20%
Haven't seen an 81 on the market in years
Police and FBI rifles here are unheard of
FN 1900s - uncommon to see at auction, I just passed on a private sale of one with some damage to the forearm for $1500

I hesitated to reply thinking there may have been more replies. I feel Canuck gave a solid assessment.

8 & 81 -Condition is king “of course”, the 35 and 25 bring a bigger premium in general. The remaining 3 calibers can sell for good money but condition must be good otherwise they can be slow to sell.

Model 8 "A" Grade Value Range:

I’ve seen correct ones sell as low as 500-550 and up to 1200-1500. I’d say the average is approximately 750-850. Exceptional/high condition, I’ve seen too few and a wide gap in price range.

Model 81 "A" Grade Value Range:

I’d use the same numbers as the 8’s except for the average price being closer to 750 perhaps lower.

Model 8/81 Police Rifles:

I don’t have the prices in my memory. I do recall posting a price earlier this year of an 81 police that went at auction, I’ll have to double check but I believe in was 7500.

Model 81 FBI Rifles:

I mssed seeing the final price of the last I knew that sold.

FN 1900's:

Same as the 81 FBI, I can’t recall and don’t want to give an opinion of what I believe they should go for.

I have watched two different 81s in 300 savage both in nice condition in the last few days the nicer one went for $1680 and just now the other one still nice but not quite as nice went for $1425 and that is before shipping and tax and the stupid Gun Broker FEE !!! Now I know I did good the other day with the the 81-B in 300 savage that was in beautiful shape for a buy now of $1495 plus all shipping, taxes and GB fees it was just over $1700 all said and done.
The price of 8s and 81s is climbing with everything else. But it's money well spent !!

I have noticed that the trend on Gunbroker seems to be less low start price auctions, and more high dollar start bids/buy-it-now prices. Most of those guns have 0 bids. Obviously, the guns with no bids are a bit over the market price, so perhaps those gun prices could be used to set top end values. I am not saying that those prices that aren't getting bids should be used as the top price, only that realistic values should be set at somewhat LESS than those high priced guns with no bids.
