U.S. marked model 8 in .32
Saw it on GB the other day, nice rifle, pg stock, though a replacement I suspect. Nice overall condition, no extra holes. But it was stamped on the left side of the receiver near the forward end with US and the flaming bomb ordnance mark. I thought this odd, and cogitated about it long enough for so...

Seems plausible. Be hard to prove I suppose unless Win kept records of such.

For the price of USPS small flat rate box, say $9, one set of RCBS FL dies in .300 Savage. They are near new. I have no use for them.

Not sure what you mean by Ruger style, but its a one piece scope base one would see on many bolt action rifles. Screwed sort of on to the radius of the receiver top. Looks ridiculous.

Re: Need .25 Rem reloading advice
I am not who you asked about crimping, but I dont crimp for mine. The little round has such a long neck and is a very light kicker there is absolutely no need to crimp. Crimping is really only needed for big kickers with heavy bullets and then only sometimes. I shoot Garands, and M14 type rifles all...

You have as good a chance at being right as anyone else. I too have been looking for a decent .35, preferably an 81 and had bid on one last week. My top bid was over $900 and it went for over $1200 I think. I may put in a bid on one or the other couple still on GB, that right now have no bids, but ...

Re: Barrel swap question ????
Sorry to disagree, but 8s/81s were mass produce rifles with mass produced tolerances. 100% confident a 30 Rem bolt will work with a 25 Rem barrel or the opposite. The buffer springs are different (some 25s just have a piece of wood, no spring). I had a 25 and used resized 30 cases in it with no iss...

Re: Barrel swap question ????
Aye, but its not the same bolt and every bolt is just a little different.. probably not so much that it couldn't be dealt with via the sizing die one way or the other though. Also though the rounds may share the same theoretical dimensions, that doesn't mean that the actual chamber(s) does. It might...

I read on this board that those scopes are pretty much garbage, not sure why its worth much. Just because something is scarce doesnt make it worth anything. I would think the swap could be made but then there is headspace to think about since you have a different bolt.

Besides being in a caliber that didnt even exist when his rifle was made, assuming he dated it correctly: it has a model 81 forearm. I emailed him about his rifle but he has not replied or changed anything.
Price is sky high.
There are a few good buys on GB and GI, but nothing I am looking for.

Dont know. FFL is/was a semi pro 'smith as well and I imagine over the years he probably worked on a few of these, he is about to retire, pushing 82 years old now.
Been doing $25 transfers for me for years, in fact up until a few years ago he only charged $15!

Was over to my FFL guy today to pick up a Uberti Schofield and we were talking about Rem 8's and he asked if I had or needed any parts. He dumped out some parts from a tray into a bag and said here.
Not sure all the parts are for a Rem 8/81 but some are for certain.

I use those too, but I had a couple boxes of the Sierra around as I shoot them in my Ruger No. 1 .257 Roberts where they shoot really well. I have some 100 gr bullets I thought I might try soon also. I have read that less weight than that might not run the gun properly.

After having finally gotten the barrel apart the other day, gave it a good cleaning and confirmed what parts were inside, no wood LOL. Interesting that yours has the heavy spring in it. I shot mine before I had it apart so had no idea what I might find. It ran fine with two different combos of components, so I guess its correct to this rifle at least.

Seems like the ones marked .25-35 are the ones with the wood plug. Do we have an idea of the SN range for the woodies? Mine is 1913 build. However I believe the jacket is a replacement as there are no numbers on it and only has the REP on the right side, but could have its original internal parts at...

Re: Barrel sticking to the rear after firing
I say I'm looking for a .25 Rem buffer spring AND washer(s) because in my only other .25 Rem Model 8, there was a weak buffer spring (I could compress it with my fingers, unlike any other 8/81 caliber spring) AND two solid "spacer" washers on the receiver end of the buffer spring. None of...

Took much oil and a few days of off and on work but I got the barrel guts out of the jacket today, finally! They are US made, not Prvi. I loaded and fired the same stuff in my .25 today and they look fine, though sizing and reloading will tell me if there are issues. I have not annealed them. Annealing is one of those steps I have avoided in all my reloading. In my .32 I have not seen problems yet after a...
