Re: 6 Model 8s for sale at online/live auction
I can not agree more, Model 8/81s are vastly underappreciated and as a result, vastly undervalued. Buy them when you can, someday I think that they will achieve a value that is commensurate with their rarity. One can hope, at least......

You can find them on Ebay. Also, you can just cut off a regular sling swivel to be the correct length. I have done that in the past.

Does anyone know the distance between the two rear sight holes on a 241 remington?1/2 inch or 5/8 inch?
Thanks.

The barrel/jacket may be a replacement for your rifle/receiver, or the receiver was made in 1936, but the rifle was not completed until 1937.
Does the barrel jacket have 622 stamped on it? If so, it is original to the gun.

Does anyone know what this Gunbroker listed Model 81 is D/T'd for? I do not recognize this 4 hole pattern. It is not a Williams mount pattern.

There may be some economic factors in play with these prices, also. Look at housing prices, and ...

The rarity in this rifle is the buttplate. A somewhat rare "semi-military" "rifle" style steel buttplate. Page 48 of Henwood's book details this.

The Crisco reacts to a high velocity round by exploding in a geyser of grease, twenty feet in the air. It was a full, sealed can. It was past its expiration date, it had been pushed back to the back of the shelf and forgotten. Those are really nice groups, especially with iron sights. 50 yds?, 100 y...

Sounds like a fun trip, shooting an 8 and an 81. It looks like you have a nice shooting setup , too. I hope that you were able to shred that target. What type of receiver sight or scope mount were the holes drilled for? If one could find out, one could replace the sight/scope mount.

To be precise, that "BAR" was a Colt Monitor. It was a knock off of the Browning design, that had a shorter barrel, different compensator, different hand guard and a pistol grip. Internally, it was the same as a BAR. It would have been highly unlikely that a gun shop would have had one on ...

This site sells once fired 300 Savage brass for $16.25/ 25 pieces. That is $65/100 if my math is correct. If converting 308 brass is going smoothly, keep doing it. But getting once fired 300 Savage brass is worth considering if the 308 conversion is not reliable. Plus the brass has the correct heads...

I am heading to the range this afternoon to shoot an 81 in 35 Rem and an 8 in 30 Rem. Loads of fun. These rifles will hold up to use, just don't abuse 'em. On the homepage of this website, click on "The grades of the Model 8 and 81" and you will be able to see what factory checkering of a B grade 81 would look like. Lots of good photos to see the subtle differences, (and not so subtle).
