Hibby that was a fantastic read! From one hunter to another, I was feeling buck fever just reading your post! Congratulations! I've always felt it somewhat bizarre, that for moments like this, it's as if time slows down and our brains remember miniscule details of the hunts that we don't remember in...

We all have different opinions and that's good, but for me the FN 1900 is the "creme de la creme" of any 8/81 collection. The one you got is a BEAUT!

The powerhouse of the 8/81 family, the 300 Sav! This was always my favorite hunting choice, an 81 in 300 Sav w/ 180gr Core-Loks. Heavy hitting springpole...on both ends!

15 round POLICE magazine for sale! Nassau, NY??
This is a rare opportunity. I did a little research on this. The magazine is stamped "013 2". The "013" are the last 3 digits of the rifle's serial number, and "2" is the 2nd magazine that came with the gun (POE rifles came with 1-3 magazines depending on the dept.). Ch...

Hi Oliver, thanks for the additional details. The info we have available is mostly sales and inter-company data. Not dimensional data or drawings. The magazines are very valuable here even if they can be found by themselves (which is rare enough). Sometimes the magazines sell $1500-2500 alone. The 1...

So sorry to hear of your dear friends passing. Heirlooms seem to always be bittersweet.
I looked at the current records, look like yours is among the lowest 81's known to survive. We have 20, 21, 22, 24 and 49 as the five lowest. Congrats.

You know these rifles have storied histories, most of it unknown to us today. The barrel nut is a replacement for sure, perhaps this happened during the time it was refinished, but again who knows. I've never measured FN springs, but my guess would be that their length's are identical or close to 35...

Re: New Member
Most Model 8 parts should work directly or with minor modification/fitting. The checkering is not the original FN pattern, but done sometime later.
The closest relative of your rifle is # 566, an FN without a barrel rib located in Canada.

An AR10 style rifle but utilizing long recoil for reduced recoil. Say it ain't so! "we call it modern long recoil because if you take some of Browning's old designs and you evolve them into our century, this is what you would end up with" - Olympus Arms, Helena, MT https://www.youtube.com/...
