Hey Luke,
That is a nice collection of round knobs. The rifles' conditions look great!

What is the chambering? What is it's date of manufacture? From what I see in the two photos, it looks like you have a very nice Model 8, for a really nice price . Refinished, but again, it looks nice from the photo. There is lots of information on this site, and lots of knowledge with the guys on th...

It would be interesting to see if one of the other three in the data base had a mismatched magazine, too (i.e. the magazines had been swapped).

Hey Tony, I just drove by Camp Ripley today, coming back from our place up by Longville. The Minnesota buck that I got this year was out of Moose Willow WMA. I got him with a 35 Remington out of a Marlin 336. We usually hunt on the east side of Leech Lake, but I decided to take a different approach ...

Thanks Roger. Your "ramblings" are very insightful. I have thought it interesting that under Iowa law, it would not be legal to shoot a deer during the regular gun season with a 30 Remington, but it would to use a 35 Whelan, or even 50 BMG. It makes no sense to me. 30 or 32 Remington would...

Thanks, John and Luke! Hibby, if you ever want to venture out to Minnesota to chase whitetails, let me know. There are not a lot of deer north of the Twin Cities right now, but up there, Minnesota will allow you to hunt with any of the Model 8/81 chamberings. I was fortunate enough to get a nice sev...

Thanks, Cam for posting this photo for me as I was having trouble. While hunting with my brother and friends, I shot this little spike buck in Iowa last month with this 101 year old Model 8. It is in 35 Remington, (as legal caliber in Iowa is 35 cal or larger). I was using a 200 gr. Hawk bullet over...

Hello and welcome. I would be most concerned about the ammo if it is old. If it is new ammo, probably not much to worry about in that regard. As far as the rifle itself, if it the bolt locks back, the magazine is functioning, and the barrel is freely sliding in the barrel sleeve, go ahead and shoot ...

Re: Failure to extract? Failure to eject
Obviously it could be that the extractor needs to be replace. However, is this rifle scoped? If so, the windage adjustment knob can cause the case to end up back in the mag well on top of the magazine. In this case, it actually extracted, but then rebounded back off of the scope to land back in the ...

Let us know where you end up going with the scope, how well they did, and how long it took. That would be good information to have.

The only stovepiping I have ever experienced in shooting, pistols or rifles, were extractor related, or ammo related. I am not saying this is the only cause possible, just that is what I have always found to be the cause. One thing to try would be shooting a magazine of factory ammo. If it cycles fi...

The first thing that comes to mind is that the magazine indicator spring is not in the slot.
Check that first.
Others on this forum know a lot more than me, I am sure there are other reasons, but that has always been the reason when I have encountered this problem.

Ditto what chas said: Round nose ammo feeds more reliably. As for the Leverevolution, I have had good results with it, but I have gone back to IMR 3031 for reloading all of the original Model 8/81 chambering. The reloading section in Henwood's book, suggests using Alliant 2400 for cast loads and IMR...
