Re: Model 8 circa 1912? Questions about my Model 8.

Welcome to the forum! 1912 is correct as far as the production #'s go for the year that your Model 8 was manufactured. You are correct about them being repair codes. Use of date codes didn't start until approximately 1921. repair codes- PG3 June 1938 OH3 July 1939 WH3 August 1939 Can find that infor...

Re: Model 8 30-30 Remington

Thanks for the answers. The serial number is 2692 and I don't know the safety types, but I'm assuming it is early. Condition is amazing (to me). By the way, 30-30 Rem is engraved. One thing, it has a rear peep sight and a previous owner bent the buckhorn sight on the barrel back so it didn't interf...

Re: Model 8 30-30 Remington

Welcome to the forum! You have an early gun with an uncommon caliber designation stamped on it. 1907 there was hand engraved caliber designation on the earliest of guns. After that they started stamping 30-30 Rem on the barrel extension. I can't say with full certainty but before 1907 was over they ...

Thanks fellas! Tony- I sure did have the thought of using one of my older Remington's in my mind. The buck was around 50 yards. Welcome to the forum and congratulations on finding an 81. As others have said before me, the extractor is correct. I personally wouldn't worry about the tiny impressions on the bolt face. I would keep an eye on it though. Regarding the safety. Utmost care and respect must be taken when working on t...

Re: This hurts physically. Why, oh why?????

Unfortunately, some of these get modifications that hurt collectability and value. At that time though, the hunter/shooter had done to his rifle what he wanted to. Fitting a more pleasing butt plate/pad would improve the look of the buttstock. The scope mount isn't an easy on to source. I can only a...

Yes, that is the correct method to put a scope into a Stith mount.

I can't comment on when rifle scopes started using nitrogen. I can say that I have no problems with my replacement scope that I put in my Stith mount " Weaver K-2.5".

I wish i had a way to measure the pitch on the screws, any thread pitch gauge i have access to doesn't go that small.

Pure guess from looking at other posts on the forum. 5-48 range ???

Best would be a good genuine gunsmith or well outfitted gun shop to help.

I was given this Butler Creek shotgun sling and figured it would be fit for a springpole.

There is leather stitched where the sling goes around the barrel "holds tight." I wouldn't recommend using this on a higher condition gun, although on a user I see no foul.
