Re: New Member from Tennessee

A beautiful D grade, with a cool serial number! Thanks for posting the photos. My thoughts, you have a well cared for survivor of an heirloom quality rifle. I strongly believe your rifle retains the original blue. As far the wood- the wood to metal fit looks great, the checkering doesn't appear fool...

I concur with 81Police- Remington, Federal, Winchester and Hornaday are all good candidates to shoot out of our autoloaders. I prefer the standard 200 grain round nose "personally" and would advise against anything heavier like the Federal hammerdown 220 grain hollow points. I've chronogra...

Chas1949-
At first, I thought that also. The Williams side mount sight has only 1" of separation from the center of the first to the last screw hole. The screw spacing on the rifle in the auction appears to be greater than the Williams.

Very cool rifle!

Thanks Dan!

I don't believe John ever fired it, I did not fire it as a 300 Savage. Since it's an Early 81, I figured that it should be 1 of the 3 original chamberings.

The barrel and shroud supporting components for the 300 Sav. are in great condition. I just wanted it era correct.

It appears that there's at least 2.5-3" of "cast off" in that buttstock. Custom work like that is extremely rare to see in modern times.
