Re: 81 300 Savage loose barrel extension
If you have a way to look at page 131 of John Henwood’s book there is an article that deals with this problem. This was quite a common issue with the FBI models due to their high use. They used a mixture of litharge and glycerine paste on the barrel and extension threads and screwed together alignin...

Re: 81 300 Savage loose barrel extension
There may be very low rotational forces on the barrel when fired. I doubt it loosened due to being used over the years however reefing on a seized barrel nut may force barrel to turn slightly in the extension.

Re: 81 300 Savage loose barrel extension
I believe JRD is talking about the barrel itself being loose in the barrel extension. There is in fact a blind pin in the extension that keeps barrel from moving. There is also a witness mark on the bottom of barrel extension and barrel to indicate original installation position when pinned. Not sur...

Thats what I thought, only one other serious bidder. I think the listing was the reason not much real interest. Listed as M81 30 cal with cracked stock. Placement of ser# made me look closer. Real early one with that low serial number. Would be nice to know who CBF 1898 was.

Could this possibly be because of a difference in the ammo produced at the time for these overseas. Lower pressure ammo like our 7.62x51 nato ammo vs commercial .308 ammo.

Re: Special police M81 on gun broker
No one has any ideas as to why the non factory carrier latch spring rivets are there or why the trigger plate does not appear to fit flush with receiver. No bids on this for at least a month. There must be some reason no one wants it, no other police model I have found has the bolt lock spring rivet...

Recently purchased a couple of items. First I believe is an early mag spring. It is the riveted type folded up in the original Remington wrapper. Second is what I believe is an FBI take down screw and yoke. The date stamp on the yoke is DNN (1944) and the take down screw has the shoulder. IMG_0824.j...

Re: .300 Savage 81 not cycling properly
First a question, can you manually unload a mag full of shells without issue. If you can then I would suggest cleaning the chamber with a brass bore brush in a cordless drill. I have twice in the past run into your issue and found the chamber to be dirty. This caused the fired case that was heated a...

If you are careful with a bench grinder or dremal the flat springs for barrel lock and mag indicator can be made from the attached. Need to be careful not to get too hot while shapping as to not remove temper.
