FBI M81

Post by chas1949 »

Are there any records available for manufacture and issue of these rifles?

Congratulations on your new 81, a bonafide F.B.I example. I bet you can't wait to get hands on it!

That's the second one that was on G.B in the last few weeks. The auction ended early on the other without bids.

The admins here have a database for rare and special 8's & 81's. I don't know as much as some of the experts on these rifles.

Yes looking forward to adding it to the collection. Been very lucky lately with attempts at purchasing good ones.
I will be hopeful that those with info on these will share their expertise.

Note: I am fortunate to have an assortment of the FBI parts. Rear sights & bonafide barrel assemblies. Sorry no wood or receivers. Although as I have already done several restorations; from repairs of non-functional rifles to a complete assembly from an assortment of parts, I would be delighted to restore a FBI model to existence. All that is lacking is a reasonable receiver. Finding one is of course impossible but a mission. (pun intended) My biggest problem is lack of a reputable smith & blueing source.
A side note, I do know the value of several rifles auctioned in recent years & the relative value of these rare parts. Mine & a certain other's Lady are a lucky deal due to the seller's failure to recognize what they had.
Anyone that may need parts perhaps I can help. I do trade if you have item(s) of interest. So far I have no complaints from members on trades or sales.
Should I need to move this to the trading section, let me know....

I keep a list of recorded FBI rifles, photos, info, etc. Can you send me the link to yours and/or photos?

Thats what I thought, only one other serious bidder. I think the listing was the reason not much real interest. Listed as M81 30 cal with cracked stock. Placement of ser# made me look closer. Real early one with that low serial number. Would be nice to know who CBF 1898 was.

Best way is to go to forum home page and select FBI model 81. All the info there
