Installing Scope on Stith Scope Mount

I have a Stith mount for a Remington 81 that currently has a Lyman All-American 2 1/2x scope in it. I want to swap it out for a vintage Burris Fullfield 2.5x. It seems the Lyman scope was installed by unscrewing the eyepiece part the focuses the reticle off, sliding the scope into the mount, and then reattaching the eyepiece. Is that the correct method. Does that harm the scope? Aren’t scopes filled with nitrogen so not to permit fogging and moisture damage? The only other way is to slide it in from the front and it would stop at the turrets. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Yes, that is the correct method to put a scope into a Stith mount.

I can't comment on when rifle scopes started using nitrogen. I can say that I have no problems with my replacement scope that I put in my Stith mount " Weaver K-2.5".

Think that's bad some of the German claw mounts are brazed to the "ring". If they are N2 filled it has to be after the optic is mounted & fitted to the barrel. Scope is surgically attached.
