Recently acquired this .25 Remington Model 8. The date code is weird and it’s missing the magazine. Overall the condition is pretty good aside from a slight dent in the barrel shroud. But for $450 it’s hard to beat!
Maybe one of you guys could tell me more about it.

Nothing particularly weird, missing magazine aside. You have a repair code "due to the 3" on your barrel shroud. I don't see a production code present, not terribly uncommon.

Nice score! I can't see the rest of the rifle, but I likely would've picked it up for that price.

Fortunately, with it being such a late gun you can use any variation magazine. It would be more correct to use the dual side spring magazine opposed to the other variants. Give it a solid once over being sure nothing else is missing or incorrect.

Would I be okay with using any .30 and .32 REM mag for it?

The magazine is universal "25-30-32-35-300" as far as what I've seen, along with what's in the parts list. The side spring/side springs would possibly need some adjustment to hold the rounds appropriately.

The cost of a complete magazine isn't very cheap. If you look at the big picture of completing a gun that you want to use, then the cost doesn't hurt too much.

As I said earlier it would look best to use one with dual springs. You may use the single side spring magazine and even the very early magazine that had the feed lips integrated into the body of the magazine itself. "if an expert see's false info in my advice please correct me"

Be sure to do your best buying a good condition unit. There can be some headaches with malfunctions that stem from magazines.

Where is the dent in the shroud and does the barrel cycle smoothly without binding?

SUPER late serial number, very cool. When was your rifle actually manufactured? No way to know definitively since it doesn't have a date code.

Keep in mind the oddity with serial numbers and date codes. Receivers were made and serialized, however, they could sit for months or years even before being assembled and subsequently date coded. You could think of it like this, typically, the serial number is when the rifle was conceived, the date code is when it was born.

There is a Model 8 with a much lower serial number than yours, however was factory chambered in 300 Savage, and probably produced around 1939-1940. From current information, it's likely the last Model 8 manufactured known to date. See below...
