Very nice Cam. Judging by the serial number, that appears to be one of the rifles that are often referred to as, "clean-up" rifles produced by Remington, when the Model 81 was discontinued in 1950. I've owned a couple of the used "clean-up" Model 81's in the 30 REM. caliber in my time, but sold them over the years.

These are referred to as "clean-up" rifles, because as the Model 81 was being phased out, Remington was producing these with the remaining new parts left in their inventory. Basically put, cleaning out the inventory as the production stopped... hence the term, "clean-up" rifles.

Finding any Boxed "New Old Stock" Remington Model 81 is really special... especially a "clean-up" rifle in 30 REM. caliber.

One has to wonder about the history of this rifle, just like one that was hunted/used hard. It's history may tell an equally interesting story.

Where has it been all of these years? How many owners? Has it ever been fired? Was is "lost" for a while and resurfaced?
