What year did they start putting tang sights on Model 8's?

I am new to Model 8's. Recently bought a 1922 model in .35 Rem. It has a buckhorn sight and no tang mounted peep sight.

I believe the gun is all original but I am not sure.

What year did Remington begin putting the tang peep sights on the Model 8's?

Thanks in advance.

I would say from the very beginning, at least evidence would support Remington's intention there. This by the pre-drilled & tapped tang screw found on the very earliest of rifles from 1906. Peeps were always factory options.

Gotcha. Thanks for the info. If I understand you correctly, if they were optional, it is possible that my rifle never had them?

correct. Especially if the original tang screw is present and the tang blueing is not outlined from where a peep once was.

Just got back from picking it up at the FFL. The screw is present and there are no scratches or discoloration to indicate it ever had a peep sight on it.

The front sight is stamped Lyman and is press fitted into the dove tail - no screw on it.

Good to know, mine - obviously - has tang sights, and I was wondering whether that was something that could help establish its age (the serials are a bit corroded), but it isn't.
Now I should maybe finish my report on this property in Spain before New Year hits, instead of browsing sites about weapons thrice my age
