8 point with a Remington Autoloader

Post by 35Rem »

Well, it's not a model 8, but it is a Remington automatic. Dad's 7400 in 30-06.

This was a buck I killed in December 2011 on his property. Dad had him on camera several times and nicknamed him "Longtine."

This is the first nice buck I, or anyone, has killed on their place since they bought it in 1992. Lord knows we've tried! :D Actually, it's my best deer ever.

It was a tricky shot, as all he presented was his head and neck between some trees. Couldn't see his body at all when he stopped. Smart feller, almost. My wife was with me and she told me to shoot him, instead of her. She was afraid she'd miss. Shot him a few inches below the chin at 80, or so, yards.

I think she and Dad were more excited than I was! It was the first deer she's seen killed. She's got the bug.

He really is a pretty deer. Weighed 188 pounds, on the hoof. 15" inside spread.
Dad called yesterday and said he picked it up from the Taxidermist. The taxidermist told Dad he was the biggest bodied deer he's worked on this year. Dad said it looks great. I'm excited.

Thanks Mitch. That's actually a little older I540. Dad's had those a couple years and likes them.

"My wife was with me and she told me to shoot him, instead of her." That's usually a good idea!
Thanks for the "rest of the story".

I was Deer hunting, not Dear hunting. :o  I meant instead of HER shooting the deer.

She wants to shoot one. Even moreso, now. She has hunted before, mostly before we had kids. They are big enough now that we can leave them for a little while to hunt, again. Hopefully we can get her a shot this upcoming season.
