Roger's Remingtons

Post by 81police »

I'm posing this picture for forum member Roger. He has some nice rifles, here he says,

"3 of my model 8's -- one 25/35,one25rem.,one30/30rem. All with tang peep sights. 2 are marbles, 1 is lyman. 25/35 also has a middle Kings. Flip down sight. All 3 reflect a lifetime of collecting@ are in relatively good shape for their age. One is 4 digit serial #. Other 2 are pre- 20,000"

Thank you, Cam--looks great to me. Hope some members enjoy seeing my babies. I own 2 other 30/30 Rem. Rifles. One with a Henwood letter. Plus about 20 other 8/81s

Hey Roger,

Thanks for sharing some pictures of your "babies". The three that you have pictures are among my favorites in the Model 8's. I noted that you say you have around 20 of the 8 & 81's. Are your 20 rifles based on Henwood's Set or some other methodology? When did you purchase your first Remington 8 or 81? Have you been shocked at the increase in prices from the first purchase to your last purchase? Do you have one that is your favorite and if so what is it? You mentioned that you have a Henwood letter for one of your rifles. What is the story behind this letter and rifle? Is there a particular model 8 or 81 that you are trying to find?

I hope you do not object to my questions but I am always interested in anothers collection and how they put it together. These rifles are special to me and I am always interested in learning new things from other collectors.

Regards,

Jack1653-- I bought my first m-81 about 20 yrs. Ago. I started collecting Browning Auto-5s @JMB desined Colt pistols about 30 yrs. Ago. There really is no method to my madness,I just got interests in rem.8/81 s cause of the A-5 close connection. I buy when the opertunity presents itself @I can afford it.The m-8 w/ the Henwood letter is a 1908 -30/30 rem. Rifle. I got it from a gun nut friend of mine from nevada ia. It was my first m-8@ it just exploded from there.I sold that first 81 a32 rem. Unit that was about 90%. Boy I wish I had it back. My favorite. M-8 would be the late prod. 35 rem. W/flat knob pistol grip, that appears to be an exact twin of Dr. Henry Shehee 's gun,the alleged clyde barrow killer. What I really want next is an FN1900, but prolly won't be able to afford one for awhile. I did just receive a call from a guy in oregon w/2 of them@ about 70 -8/81s---Roger

Beauty collection, you have some very nice peices. I noticed none of your stocks are drilled for slings, it is very difficult to find 8s here that are not all beat up. Nice stuff

To whoever is interested, in the Henwood letter about the 30/30 rem m-8 ,he matter of factly states that he believes they are less seldom seen than the 25/35 marked guns. I found that quite enlightening. As I stated before I'm lucky enough to have 3 of them. The latest addition to my collection came from a man in Mich. Who had owned it for57 yrs!! He bought it when he was 14 yrs. Old. So it was 47/48 yrs. Old when he bought it. I sure wish it could talk.---Roger
