Remington 81 and Doe

Post by superc »

This doe who presented a head on shot was no match for the Model 81. That is an exit wound. The 200 gr. bullet travelled diagnally front to back then exited. She dropped in her tracks. Fairly typical of how that caliber performs in these woods.

I'm thinking your DeWalt must be an earlier version of mine.

Nice doe, nice shot, nice rifle! I note that it appears you have a Redfield receiver sight on your M81. Did you add that or was it on when you aquired it? 30 or 35 caliber?
I took my M81 out for a day this season but didn't get a shot. All the deer we saw were well beyond my open sight comfort zone. The next trip out I used my old M722 with a scope and did score two nice anterless deer. Both were close shots at less than fifty yards, should have taken the M81 again. Maybe next year for the spring pole.
