Model 8 circa 1912? Questions about my Model 8.

Post by 35remfan »

 Hello all,

I joined this forum in hopes of seeking confirmation for my own research. I have a Remington Model 8 that I believe was manufactured in 1912. The serial number is as follows: There is a F, below that it says 29599, below the "29599" there is a "K" enclosed in a circle.

On the left side of the barrel there are 3 codes. I believe they are repair codes. The first one says "WH3," beneath that it says "OH3," below that it says "PG3."

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you and Merry Christmas!

Welcome to the forum!

1912 is correct as far as the production #'s go for the year that your Model 8 was manufactured.

You are correct about them being repair codes. Use of date codes didn't start until approximately 1921.

repair codes-
PG3 June 1938
OH3 July 1939
WH3 August 1939

Can find that information from the home page.

Thank you for your help, providing the link and welcoming me to the community.

Any idea what the "F" above the serial number may be or the Circle K beneath it?

I know I have a lot of questions. Please be patient with me.

You're welcome. No worries about questions, we all have asked about what we didn't know.

From what I've seen and read, the letters are inspector/fitters stamps. They changed over time of production.

I figured it was a a maker's mark or something along those lines. Again, thank you very much.
