Two Model 8 Deluxe Grade 3

Post by jack1653 »

Hey Fellas,

I stumbled on two Deluxe Model 8's and yes the "3" is stamped in the forearm on both rifles. One of the rifles is a .32 and all the numbers match.

The other one is a 1911 .300 Savage. Yeah, I know they didn't make a .300 Savage in 1911. Again all the numbers match and I am trying to determine if the barrel switch was done by the folks at Remington or was it done by a good gunsmith. In either case, the job is perfect.

The checkering, according to 81police is original factory and it is beautiful. One set of my pictures would give the impression that the checkering is very thin, but that is not the case. My picture taking ability isn't very good but I am working on that problem.

As the old saying goes; "Even a blind sow can find an acorn once in a while!" Oink Oink!!

Hey rem81auto,

I don't know why guys notch their rifles, especially one of this quality. I don't know the history of this rifle or the .32. The brass plate has a name and 1911 engraved on it. Even with the notches I think it is beautiful rifle and am glad to have it.

I have a 1851 Naval .36 Colt that has 7 notches carved in the grip. I guess I know what they stood for!

Jack,

Leave a few for the rest of us to find!

It appears to me barrels that do not match the receiver may be more common than we think. I have seen a number of them on gun show tables a few years ago that were so mismatched they looked like Johnny Cash's old Cadillac from the song. And sadly, I am hoping to find one of them now.

Shoot straight!!

I have no idea unless there was a split or piece missing and someone squared it off. I have seen it on a couple other rifles and wondered why it was notched. Maybe someone else can enlighten us.

That's just a chip in the stock. It's fairly common, the wood there is pretty thin.
