New member and 8 owner

Post by fullchoke »

Hello, New owner here, with no experience with a Model 8 or the 25 Remington. It is difficult to find info in the search feature, because it ignores 25. Please tell me a little info about this cartridge. The serial # puts the gun about 1921. What % of Model 8's were 25 Rem? I'll try to post a picture soon.

Thanks

The .25 caliber guns were the least popular, by all accounts, and we're discontinued around 1936, if I remember right. This only makes them that k uch more collectable for us 8 heads. :)

That is one pretty rifle. I think I see in the photo of the left side a dent in the magazine.

Nice quarter bore!

Wiki has a nice bit of basics on the 25 Remington (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/.25_Remington)

John Henwood states in his book that from his own research, he considered the 25Rem to represent 3% of all Model 8's. Since factory production figures including caliber have yet to be discovered, this is only a guess.

Yes, unfortunately that is a dent, but probably not too hard to carefully get out if it interferes with cartridges.
3%, that is not many. What other Remington's I wonder came in the 25 Remington?
It also has a crack in the butt plate in the screw hole. If anyone has one for this vintage rifle, I'm interested. It is a squared off butt stock not like the crescent shaped earlier ones.

Thanks

I've never researched the history of the 25Rem, but I know the Remington Model 14 pump-action rifle was chambered in 25Rem as well as the Model 30 bolt action.

Not a Remington but the Stevens 425 lever action was also chambered for the 25 Remington rimless. Probably scarcer than any other rifle for the 25.

I have a model 14 in 25Rem, which is a really nifty little rifle. :)
