Great 8 Countdown & * Giveaway!

Post by jack1653 »

Hey Guys,

The Great Event is just two weeks away! I have been working very hard to get the site ready for some challenging shooting. The range is set up for targets ranging from 25 yards to 300 yards. A walk-up steel target arrangement ranging from 25 to 50 yards or longer if you are so inclined for longer shots. There is an animal target area without yard ages marked so we will see who can guess the yard ages and hit the animal targets. No range finders allowed and I will be the only one that knows the yardage. Animal targets include wild boar, coyote, whitetail deer, antelope, elk and black bear. There will be several stationary splatter targets. I just finished installing an inclined 80' "zip-line" for a moving target with various distances. I am prepared for both rifle and pistol shooting.

There will be a clay thrower for anyone wanting to shoot sporting clays. Clays will be available at my cost.

I will be taking several model 8 & 81 rifles to the farm both days. Among the rifles that will be available will be:
2 carbines in 30 & 35,
1 300 Savage with scope and Kreiger conversion,
1 35 model 8 with scope,
2 VerSchneider Conversions in model 8 & 81 .35,
1 FN with Monte Carlo stock,
3 Police Models with the POE 15-shot extended mags; 1 model 8 .35 and 2 model 81's 1 .30 and 1 .35,
1 FSMR model 8 .25,

In addition to the above, I will have several handguns available for the guys to shoot. These include:
Revolvers in .22, 44 Rem Mag,
Automatics in S&W's 22' 9mm, 40, 45, and Colt 1911
S&W 223 with slide stock,
Several shotguns,
High powered rifles in various calipers if anyone wants to punish themselves. I have ammunition that can be purchased for these rifles.

The itenerary for the event is not cast in stone and is meant to facilitate time at the farm for shooting both days. The following is what I have in mind.
Thursday will be set up day. Some have indicated they were available to help so if you are going to help, let me know and I will get you directions earlier.
Friday will be the first day of the event. If you get in before noon, meet at my residence for some coffee and donuts and chit-chat about the rifles. We will head to the farm at 12:30 and will start shooting at 1:00 pm. Shooting will stop at 4:00 and we will head back to town to relax and do some more talking and sharing of our "stuff". We will have dinner sometime between 6-6:30. The evening is yours to enjoy wit the guys.

Saturday is the main day for the event. Those that staying Thursday evening can join us for breakfast at 8:00am at the Spring Garden Resturant. They have an excellent breakfast menu with a good selection and very reasonable prices. After breakfast we will meet back at my house to look at rifles and chew the fat.

We will head to the farm at 12:30 to prepare for the shooting that will start at 1:00 pm. We will shoot until 4:00 and then head to town for cocktails and other refreshing beverages. Joe and I will start preparations for the evening meal at my home. We will plan on eating between 6-6:30. After dinner we plan on sitting around and look at what the guys have brought for others to see.

All I need to know at this point who else will be joining us for the weekend. I have commitments from Sarge756, Phyirbird, 81police, jim008, Mike and a maybe from S and S Huntclub. I have some local friends who may be joining us also. If there is anything that needs to be added, please contact me. I look forward to seeing and meeting all that are coming to OUR event.

Kindest Regards,

Hey Jack,
I'm sure sorry that I won't be able to attend your event. But I have family comittments for another event in Kansas city starting on that friday night thru Sunday. I'll certainly be there in spirit. I truly have a great admiration for the Rem. Model 8/81s. I hope you all have a good time together. Please post some pics so those of us not able to attend can enjoy the event too. If this becomes some sort of annual event, maybe I'll be able to attend it at some later time.
Thanks for your time,
Roger

Looking forward to claiming a copy Cam. This time tomorrow I`ll be "On the Road Again" headed north. Stopover in Atlanta and will get to Taylorville sometime Thursday afternoon.
Hoping fair skies and cool weather up there. Got to be cooler than the mid and upper 90`s here. Bringing a truckload of guns to shoot and talk about. Some I would imagine may be a first time seeing or handling for some. Safe travels for everyone and see you soon.

Planning to arrive Friday am as close to 8 as I can make it...

Jack,
It would help to have addresses for your place and the farm to not get lost....
I think I can find the Restaurant at 1220 W Springfield Rd, Taylorville, IL 62568.
My brother is also asking for directions

Hey Team TGM8!

Now for those of us NOT silly enough to stay home since we blew all our summer traveling elsewhere, who's gonna be the first to provide we armchair quarterbacks the digital evidence we so dearly crave LOL?

Isn't there gonna be some sort of realtime broadcast/TGM8 online streaming webinar?

I am so spoiled from Netflix and Amazon Prime video streaming......

Anyway, I wish you all well and plenty of fun at "Jack's Model 8/81 Round-Up" summer camp!

Adam Lee

PS....And I just gotta know, Joe did your pooch tag along with you from Florida? :P Both my hounds traveled with me and the missus all over creation this summer, they're great road dawgz.
And don't forget to play nice with Tannerite!

Hey Fellas,
I hope the event at Jack's farm has gone well for everyone and you all had fun. Hope to see the pics and videos soon. I'm in Kansas City at a family affair with 2 of my son's and daughter in laws. My sons and I attended the Missouri Valley Arms Collectors Assn. Gun Show yesterday at the KC expo center near the KC Airport. I've tried to come and talked about it for years, but never made it until yesterday. What a great, quality show for collectors it was. Easy to navigate in one day. Scored 2 great JMB Winchesters.
I hope you all have safe trips home from Illinois.
Thanks for your time

Well all who missed this event really missed out on an amazing thing! Jacks hospitality is second. To none! To see that many 8's and 81's in one place was a awesome experience. Jacks collection is breath taking. Truely museum quality. Never did I imagine that I would actually get to shoot a high cap 81. Wonderful day with great people!
