Model 14 pump

Post by Sebastian21 »

I am restocking, for a customer, a model 14 in 25 caliber. The forearm has coil like bushing. I can not see what that bushing is for or what it does. The takedown books do not show it. Anybody have any ideas?

That is interesting. Took mine loose and did not see anything close to your description.Looked through schematics and see it not there either. Could you post a photo of it?

I wish I knew how to post a picture. The bushing is 4 sheet metal rings connected to each other by tabs giving a spring like appearance. I have a 141 32 cal in the shop and it has this bushing also. It is not shown in any drawings or parts list. The bushing slides on the magazine tube inside the forearm.

That is an anti rattle device. Only used for a short time. Introduced about 1921. It puts rearward pressure against the magazine tube. This information from Ken Blauch's book on the 14 & 141.

Thank you. You saved me a lot of work trying to fit this thing. With the new wood it works just fine with out it. This anti-rattle device requires a lot of additional inletting.

I got my copy of Ken Blauch's book from the Remington Society web site. I just checked and it is marked sold out. You will have to look at used book sources to find one.

If you do restocks, I have a job for you. I have a Remington model 25 in 25-20. I purchased a beautiful buttstock for this rifle in birdseye maple and need a "corncob forearm" made for it to match(very similar to a model 14, but smaller). I have two pieces of birdseye maple material and the original forearm that I can send to you. The original forearm had main screws with locking screws, but with the hardness of the birdseye maple, I don't think they would be required. If you are interested in the project, give me a call at 281-894-5323 or email r.bowden@sbcglobal.net. Thank you for your time. ROB
