Looking For Some Rifles

Post by jack1653 »

Hey Guys,

I made a similar post a couple of years ago and I was able to acquire one of the rifles. The list is getting shorter. I will consider trading rifles.

There is nothing unusual about the rifles that I am trying to find. They are just plain model 8's and one model 81. I am making an assumption that these rifles were produced with the barrel codes that I am trying to find. There are no records from Remington to confirm that the codes I am looking for were or were not produced. This is a quirk that I have in my collecting objectives. I am trying to get the barrel codes to match the year (serial number) that the rifle was issued. I already have rifles for the years I am looking for but the barrel codes indicate they were produced in a different year than the year the gun was issued. This was not an uncommon situation since Remington had inventories from which they could draw to assemble the rifles.

The list below gives the year, serial number range and last digit of the barrel code. The month code is not as important as the year code.

Model 8

1921 44826-45938 ?M The (?) denotes the month.

1923 47298-48826 ?P

1925 50137-51519 ?S

1932 65466-66360 ?A

1934 66868-67676 ?C

Model 81

1944 21580-21694 ?NN

If you can help me locate these rifles, it would be greatly appreciated. You may contact me with a PM or email me at jack1653@att.net. Thank you in advance for your assistance.

Kindest Regards,

Hello Jack, I noticed that you omitted the 1943 Model 81 that you were searching for a while back. Congratulations on finding one of the other 3.

Hey Bob,

You are right about not listing the 1943. It was not an oversight. I would take one regardless of the barrel codes but doubt that will ever happen since there were only 4 made that year. There is always the chance one will show up. Probably sitting in some closet or attic forgotten about.

I appreciate your reply and I know that you watch the auctions. Thanks for your help.

Regards,

Jack
