Looks NICE Baddog! It certainly falls within the serial number range for the Twenty Five Original U.S. Trials Rifles, chambered in the .25 REM caliber. These are extremely rare & extremely pricey rifles. The last one that sold on GunBroker.com, sold a few years back in the $12,000.00 - $12,500.00 range and an auction would be the best return, if you were to ever decide to sell a U.S. Trials Rifle.

These are considered extremely rare amongst the Collectors today and an honest collector would pay a premium for a U.S. Trials Rifle.

Congratulations!

It's going up for sale. My mother is getting up in years and wants to sell it. Just looking for an auction I can trust and work with. Thanks for the info.

You could certainly put it up for sale on GunBroker.com on your own and try to sell it yourself.

If your not that familiar with the Remington Model 8's, I am sure that some more folks will chime in here and give you their input. After you verify everything, you can also use an auction company like Rock Island Auction. You can contact them by phone. (800) 238-8022 or you can email them.
Their email address is: guns@rockislandauction.com

There are also numerous other auction companies that would absolutely love to have a Rare Remington "U.S. Trials" listed for sale in one of their upcoming auctions.

I would suggest moving slowly on the sale of the rifle. Do your research and your due diligence. Then, your mother will get the most money for this extremely rare rifle.

Good Luck with everything & keep us up to date.

Howdy from a fellow Texan!

I'd completely agree with S and S HUNTCLUB about his assessment of your rifle and possible avenues to sell it.

I went through our records here at thegreatmodel8 and we only have 10 of the original 25 Trial's rifles on file by serial number. 11 now including yours. So that is to say they are extremely rare, collectible, and of course valuable.

If you're anywhere in the DFW area, and would like an 8/81 collector to examine the gun, I'd be more than happy to give you what limited info I have and give you my thoughts on the gun.

What a piece of history y'all got there!

I'm trying to figure out how my granddad ended up with this rifle. He gave it to my dad. Did they do the weapons trials on this weapon at the Aderdeen Proving Grounds? I was born MD. Dad used to tell me stories about hunting deer on the Proving Grounds. That would explain how grand dad was in the area near the weapons.
