Post by ckmorley »

Attached are the Bbl jacket codes and SN of my Model 81.

Can anyone decipher the codes for me?

CK,
You're right - this s/n is an early first year 81, 1936. Also, the lower of the two barrel jacket stamps is the original assembly date code of November, 1936 (RE) while the upper code is a factory return/repair code for November, 1939 (RH3).

Neat stuff - from the slab-sided forearm, I assumed it was a post-1939 gun. From '36-some point in '39/'40 it was semi-beavertail, it went to the slab-side forearm after that.

Thinking on it, since the gun has a '39 repair code maybe that's when it acquired the later style forearm. Who knows? It may just have been replaced along the way.

Have fun with your gun!
