New Model 8 Owner

Post by PossumJr »

Hi.

Just got myself a Model 8, haven't even shot it yet but I'm already in love with it. I fell in love with the 8/81 when I first saw one and when I saw mine at a Cablea's used rack I decided to jump in head-first, although I feel $675 was a bit high for it's condition I don't really care.

If I'm not out of line, I would like to ask a question here as well. When I found it at the store they had it marked as an 81, but I knew it wasn't as soon as I looked at it, but I have no clue about when it was manufactured. There's no date code on the barrel so assume earlier than 1922 and the only places anything is marked is the serial number and on the barrel. Is there anyone who can help a guy out?

According to St. Henwood (genuflect), your's was made in 1907, serial numbers 2266 through 7734.

Really? So would that technically make it a Remington Autoloading Rifle and not a Model 8 then?

Yes, we do like pictures of these guns, don't we?
On that point - I need to get a new camera or a new smartphone that has a decent camera.
Did I just think that out loud?

That's just a small idea of how dirty it was. I don't think it was cleaned or shot in years and spent alot of time in storage in a bag or gunrack, I've seen Mosins come out of cold-storage cleaner than this thing.
