Membership Criteria

Post by jack1653 »

Dear Site Administrators:

I would like to suggest that WE review the criteria for membership to the Forum. It seems to me that there are more attempts to "spam" the site than we use to experience. I personally find it frustrating to come to the forum and see all icons lit up with "New Postings" that are pornographic in content.

I am a member of several forums that require a little more personal information and a pre-screening before being given the priviledge of joining the site. Some of these sites require an approval of the posting by the Site Administrators before it is put on the site. While it might be frustrating for the "valid" members who do not abuse the posting rules, it is quite obvious that not everyone is following the rules. Perhaps a designation of membership status could be assigned to the member thereby allowing only those with the "posting" privledge to post without an approval by the Site Adminisstrators.

Thank you for your consideration to this issue.

Respectfully,

Jack Ahlberg

I agree with you Jack, I joined the forum for the friendship of fellow model 8 & 81 owners. I'am here to learn more about my rifle and the history of it . Not the spam.

When the forum went defunct I moved it here for packmule, recently as you all know packmule left (no I don't know why) and I felt it should be kept going. For those who don't know me I do the Remington, Ruger, Colt, and also recovered the leverguncommunity forums a while back as well and numerous others. Anyhow I'm more then happy to keep this going and help with any other gun related organization that needs help for $0 dollars. However while I've developed a good list of emails to ban occasionally one gets through. Please feel free to contact me anytime something pops up so I can evaluate how bad it is and make appropriate changes. I can make it so all new members need administrator approval or other things, I however just want to make sure I also "don't get in the way". However please be polite remember I do all these for free on my dime and time.

David,
We are adults and know that the world is NOT getting better - that there are people who enjoy destroying good things just to destroy a good or beautiful thing. :x

I happen to be browsing when I saw these start popping up (midnight Friday PST) although it was frustrating I knew someone would take care of it. Thank you for letting us know how things work (or don't). Now that I know whom to contact, I for one, will take more responsibility for policing our forum. :ugeek:

Thanks for your time and effort. :D

Mitch, and all others:
Please let any of us moderators or administrators know when this stuff comes up. I have a Blackberry now, so I was actually deleting stuff when I was alerted Sunday AM, while in Sunday School...Not Fun! I think someone else was deleteing at the same time.

It's a blessing and a curse. The Blessing is that we are easier to find than ever before. Thank you to Pack (Richard), David, and Cam for that.

DAVID and CAM - Thanks for allowing me to maintain the Moderator priveledges, even though I have never spoken to either of you personally (except via PM). I appreciate the trust you have in me, and Richard, for maintaining me as a moderator.
I will nail this stuff when I see it. If either of you have any "rules" that you would like me to know, please PM me. To me, this is a Family site, and should be maintained as such. No bad stuff, of any kind.

I really appreciate you helping out 35rem, I'm not on here much during the weekend and thanks for removing inappropriate things that come up. I always delete/ban users who post that stuff but I'm not always quick on the draw.

We have another posting that likely doesn't belong here - regarding computer issues: "Derdab" under "The Great Model 81 Woodsmaster". In the past. it seems that this kind of posting usually appears about the same time that we get hit w/ the porn. I'll be on the confuser for several hours tonight, I'll keep checking back to see if our "other friend" shows his ugly head.
