2-Gun Action Match with a Remington Model 8 (video)

Post by Forgotten Weapons »

I shot a 2-gun action challenge match this weekend using my Remington Model 8 (in .300 Savage), and had a great time. The rifle performed almost flawlessly - I had one malfunction that I believe was caused by the takedown screw loosening slightly (which as easy to fix and didn't hurt my score because it happened on the very last shot of a stage). The only real problem the rifle gave me was reloading, which was much slower than the folks who had detachable-mag rifles. Still, it was lots of fun and I figured the folks here might enjoy the video:

Love it. You are a lot better with the stripper clips than I am.

It was great seeing a Model 8 strutting its stuff.

I'm no faster with strippers on my Mosin than you are with them on the 8. Reaching across with my support hand, it's hard to find the charger guide unless I turn the gun so I can look. I guess it's easier for right-handed people.

You'd be in the same reloading boat with most old milsurps, except for the SMLE or SKS, where you'd need TWO stripper clips per reload... the charger guide is easy to find on the SMLE, though.

Heck, it was fun watching you running around. I could hobble to the first prone section, and then I'd need help getting back up. [sigh]

I noticed you were using "African carry" when you were moving with the rifle slung. I just found out about that the other day, and haven't tried it yet.

FW

Nice vid and good shooting. The loosening of the takedown screw will continue if you keep using it to hold the sling .... while it looks like it was made to hold a sling >>> it is for take down only.

Yeah, I know that isn't meant to be a sling mount - I just didn't have a chance to arrange a better system before the match.

Tucson - the match is the third Saturday of each month, at the Pima Pistol Club. Everyone is welcome, but be prepared for a highly physical match. :) Entry fee is $15.

Ian, if I lived out near y'all we would have to borrow you a Model 8/81 w/ 15 round magazines :D

But concerning your video...AWESOME! You do such great work putting these together and I certainly appreciate you coming on our forums and sharing it with us. VERY COOL of you!

You handled the rifle well, especially shooting the hardest kicking cartridge in the 8/81 caliber lineup. And I share your sentiments, single cartridge loading these rifles isn't a speedy process :)

Hey lan,

What a great video :D . You do that rifle proud :!: :!: :!: I echo 81police's comments. You really do produce some excellent videos and your website is very good. It has been awhile since I visited it and the reminder from 81police has put your site back on my list of the best. Thank you so very much for taking the time to share your work.

Kindest Regards,

I am a huge stripper clip fan and the fact that this rifle is made with a clip in mind is one of the reasons I like it so much.
