Rare tang sight.

Post by ROBOPUMP »

I missed out on this auction last night and would have loved to get this one. I got bored and did some other searches and when I got back to the auction, it had closed.'

Is anyone familiar with the Lyman tang sight on this rifle? I was basing part of my bid price on it and not the rifle. It seems to have a rear tang of it's own that has a second screw in it. I just thought it was unusual and I don't think I have ever seen one before. See pictures attached. I always look for details or for something out of the norm.

Thank you for your time.

Hello Rob, I noticed this tang sight as well. It was the first time that I have ever seen this type of base on a Lyman tang sight myself! The extra screw hole on the tail of the sight base has me baffled.

Hey fellas,
I also have an unusual base like this one on one of my model 8 s. I can't remember if it's a Lyman. I'll check it out and try to get some pics taken of it. Then see if I can get some help posting them on this forum. My first thought about it when i first bought it,was that maybe it belonged on a rem. M-16 -22 auto rifle. But that's just a guess at best. I really have no idea where it belongs. Mine may actually have a longer base than the one posted here.
Thanks for your time,
Roger

Rog,
Please post markings & Manufacturer, it will help us find the right ones. There have been several I've located that are just not quite the right models. This site has saved us a lot of mis-spent cash...

Hey fellas, My sight appears to be a very early Marbles. It has no markings on the underside of the mounting base. It is marked with a 02/03 patent date, and MSA Co.(marbles safety axe Co.) That's all it says on it. I've taken some photos of it,but will need some one to post them for me on the forum website. Perhaps one of you can help me here.
This sight looks rather odd to me.
Thanks for your time,
Roger

Fellow members,
I need to ask for some assistance in posting pictures of my marbles tang sight. If i can text them to someone then that's the easiest for me to do.Otherwise I can email them to someone.I think you members will find this sight very interesting.

Hey Bob and Jeff,
Thanks for your help. I'll get those off to you in an email. It may take a few days to get them transferred to a computer from my phone, but I'll do it asap.I'm anxious to find out some opinions on this sight. I've never seen one like it before. I've even wondered if someone may have Bubba -bent it with heat somehow. However ,it shows no sign of that at all. It had been on this model 8 for a very long time.
Thanks for your time,
Roger

Hey fellas,
Here's a special thank you to Bob and Jeff for posting these pics for me. Please feel free to give an opinion on what it may belong on. It is possible that it has been bent to fit the rem. M-8 receiver back. I couldn't really say. It's very old,and has been on this m-8 for a very long time.
Thanks for your time,
Roger
