Scope or not?

Hello! Sorry for my long period of no0t being here. However, hunting season has started and my old eys is not what they used to be.

The gun (or I) need a scope and an old Pecar would fit nice. But drilling in this beauty?? Are there any way to come around the drilling bit?

The gun is almost unfired. Shoots by the way quite nice with Hornady 200 gr, Leverevolution.

Regards

Hi Harmorby,

Love your FN. Unfortunately, when manufactured, there was no provision for any alternative sighting system. Even a tang sight would require the drilling & tapping of at least 1 hole in the receiver tang (actually somewhat common in Canadian FN's). One idea would be to drift the rear sight out and replace it with a custom mount & reflex sight. Another idea is use a Hi-Viz brand fiber optic front sight. I've got one on an 81 and they stand out significantly and are great for hunting (pictured below). Both of these ideas don't require drilling and allow you to return the rifle to its original configuration if desired.

Whatever you do please share photos with us!

Nice rifle like that, that is pure from any alterations, I'd leave as be unless you don't care about the collectability of it. Hate seeing these old rifles with holes drilled in receivers. Once drilled, ya gotta live with it. Police 81's idea if it works for ya is a good one. Years ago, I bought a HiViz clamp on magnetic front sight for my Remington 870 shotgun for turkey hunting in early AM hours. Love it, really brings the front site into view. Like it so much, I leave it on 24/7 even for pheasant hunting. I have to really pull on it to remove, never have had problem in the field with it coming off. Not a pricey alteration for your FN. I did see one of the peep sights as shown in your picture for sale not long ago on some sight, can't recall where, wasn't cheap, but they are out there if ya search long enough.
