Purchased my first 81

Suprisingly found one at a small local shop. Sports original bluing, Marbles front and rear sights, Redfield peep sight. Chambered in .35 Remington, serial number puts her manufacture year in 1942. I also did myself a favor and oredered John Henwood's book. Took her apart and cleaned her up with Kano Kroil, EEZOX, and Break Free LP for lubrication. Any advice on good factory ammo to run through her?

My Brother and I have a Model 8 in .35 Remington, it was our dad's rifle. Winchester and Remington both make factory load for the .35, come to think of it Federal does too..

We also tripped over a Model 81 at a gun show a couple of weeks ago. I say tripped over it because we missed it at first and almost missed it completely. It is .300 Savage.

uh-oh you got bit by the 8/81 bug! Haha congrats on your new purchases!

Mine seem to like either Remington or Federal factory loaded 200gr. soft points for the 35, 180gr. soft points for the 300. Enjoy!
