It's not yet in my grubby paws, but I'm excited to have picked this one up.
Tell me what y'all think!

Hey 35Rem,

Congratulation on your find. This rifle is not your regular 81-300. The checkering looks really nice and so does the cap on the grip. The Krieger sure makes loading a lot easier. I have a couple Kriegers that are on scoped rifles and loading them is a lot easier. I really like the 300 for hog hunting. A good shoulder shot will turn them in a 360 degree circle. I know there are a lot of hogs in parts of Alabama so maybe you can get a few.

Regards,

Thanks Mr. Jack. It's a nice example. Hope to get to shoot it soon and maybe put it on some game in the fall. There are hogs around here, but I've not had the opportunity.
I'm excited to add a kreiger to the collection. Just a neat piece of history.

Larry,
A good one, looks to be in better condition than most we find. I like the checkering especially.
The grip cap and line spacer is not typical but is very tastefully done. Many don't look even close to that good.

Finally got to pull it apart.
No markings in the forend.
The stock has the serial number stamped on the lower tang inletting.
The grip cap is somewhat inletted along the bottom of the stock, so it's not like it was just stuck on there.
Interesting gun.

Is this going to be a deer rifle for you?

I will likely spend more time in a safe. :(
I will take it on a trip or two, but I don't get to go hunting as often as I'd like to these days.

Found a little bonus.
The rifle has Paul Jaeger marked quick detachable sling swivels. I've seen these selling in the $50 neighborhood.

Does anyone know the significance of them? Were they the first detachable?
