Maximum cartridge length in an 81?

Post by Bill in Oregon »

Have one in .300 Savage. What's the best maximum length for foolproof feeding?

Hello, The maximum length that we have found to work in our Model 81's in the 300 Savage caliber is between 2.516" to 2.528" for proper feeding. That length is using a 180 grain Remington Core-Lokt round nose soft point.

I think the 300Sav and the 35Rem share the same magazine and follower, if not someone correct me.

That said, I had reasonable success using 2.550" in my 35 Rem. Bullet nose profile made quite a bit of difference in feeding reliability.

I need to lay in some RNs to do this rifle and cartridge justice.
