My 1908 Model 8

Post by big al »

Hello Guys
I posted photos of my rifle in the old forum . Thought I would post them here again.
This is my well used Model 8 in 35 Remington. It had been reblued when I got it and also the wood was finished in something that looked like the old fake wood grain drawer lining paper. That is what it looked like but it was some finish. I sanded that off and refinished the wood.
Here are the after and before pics.

Thanks guys. Yes it turned out pretty good.Anything is better than what it looked like before.
I do not know what the person who refinshed it before was thinking.

Big Al,

You did a very nice job on your Model 8. How does the old girl shoot?

Very nice job on the refinish!
I'm most curious about your rifle having a slotted screw in the forearm, rather than the usual 'swivel-loop' type, though. A later replacement, perhaps?

Hello Guys It was a nice day the other day and I decided to take some better updated pics of my two rifles this 1908 and my 1928. I will post the new pics in the corrosponding threads.
TNrifleman sorry for not answering sooner ,she shoots just fine. 30 Gov03 Yes,I believe the slotted screw in the forearm is a replacement but not 100% sure. I also just noticed that it does not have the barrel shroud drilled for swivel screw but I don't know when this feature was added.

i love the early gun features your gun has like the 1902 patented rear sight & barrel jacket, and the magazine w/out side springs. Great pictures too btw!

Soooooo, what was the problem with fake-wood-grain-drawer-liner? Like unique man 8-) (along with the orange long shag on the walls in the gun room).
Great job. :)
