Model 8 c finally

Hey fellas,
I recently purchased a Remington model 8C,in 32 Rem. It's a round knob , with a pistol grip cap. That work may have been done at the factory,or not. Hard to say at this point. It's got 3 special order sights. Also may have been done at the factory. At this point, who's to say. The buttstock is marked inside with a 3, so I know it's a C- grade. The numbers all seem to match. I believe that it may have been sent back to Remington for wood refinishing and grip cap installation. The factory hard rubber buttplate is the earlier one with Remington Arms Co. In a circle. However, it has some odd printing or else initials, inside that circle I'll try to take some pictures some time soon. But I'll need some help with getting them posted here. Thanks for your time,
Roger

Hey fellas,
It was a difficult year in 2017. I have not been able to find much time for this forum. My father has dimmentia now,and we have had to sell everything, including our land/farm etc. in Madison county.Just to support him,as he is now in assisted living in town. He fell on concrete last March, injuring himself and we had areal tough summer because of this. So my gun hobby hasn't been on the front page. He is doing relatively well in his assisted living apartment. I've been back on the gun auction sites and this model 8 C popped up a couple weeks ago.I wasted no time contacting the seller and swinging adeal . I've been on the hunt for a true 8C for a long time now. Jack knows how badly I've wanted one , because I have ding donged him about selling me one of his on more than one occasion. (LOL) Maybe a D- grade will pop into my future some time. Only time will tell.
And yes,Cam I will get some pictures and try to email them to you,if you would be willing to post them here for me.
Thanks for your time, Roger

Roger that is certainly a very outstanding 8! I did not think a model 8 in such great condition would survive the years. Very nice.

Roger,
As this is a very original 8-C Could you send some photos of the grip cap & the Buttplate, please.
I would also be interested if any one could photo the same on a M 81? It is good for us to be able to recognize these in online photos.
Thanks
Carl
PS I Like that butt stock, Pretty :!: :!:

Hey Rob, it's great to hear from you. I bid on one of your auctions. Hope to win it.And Carl, I sent a buttplate photo to Cam. Maybe he will post it. I didn't take any pictures of the grip cap,but I will say it is UMC marked. The serial number of this rifle falls right in the pigeon hole for 1910-1911. So it's possible that it was done originally. The seller and I both think that it was returned for the grip cap installation and possible wood refinishing and rechasing the checkering. The wood finish looks original, but the cheeks on the stock were sanded somewhat.so maybe it was all done before 1920-21. Because there's no date codes marked on the barrel jacket. This is all speculation,of course. We'll probably never know for sure. If I can ever get more time ,Carl, I'll take a picture of the grip cap.
Thanks for your time,
Roger

Hey Roger,

Congratulations on a great looking 8-C. Your wait was well worth it. The rifle you purchased is as good if not better than those that I have. They are indeed beautiful rifles.

Kindest Regards,

Jack

Hey there Jack,
Thank you for your kind words.I couldn't be happier than I already am with this rifle. Unfortunately our weather here in Iowa hasn't allowed me to take it to the range for testing. Maybe soon.
Thanks for your time,
Roger
