I aquired a new model 8 and was checking for matching number. Under the butplate I found an envelope dated 1933 full of wax covered wooden matches. It was addressed to a home on Vancouver Island, how cool is that. This is the third time I have found stuff, ammo or matches but never had a date on paper

Hey ranman,

Nice find in the stock. I always check to see if there are any goodies that may have been placed by previous owners. I have found some nice sights, dollar bills, screws, matches, etc. I have not found any dated items that I can recall.

The rifle you have pictures has one of the old style safety levers with the "tear drop". You don't see these safety's very often. What other details can you share about the rifle. Good find my Friend.

Jack1653, the serial number is around 2900 and dates to second year production. This is my first model 8 with the early safety. I have been looking a very long time for the right one. A few pictures will follow.

Hey Randy,

That is a very nice second year production. The dark wood is a compliment to the patina on the metal. To find an early style safety takes a lot of searching. Finds like this is what really takes a collection to the next level.

How are you doing with the FN additions? I remember seeing early pictures of your FN's before I got my first one. I have used my last set of reproduction bushing, pin and spring on the last custom FN. I didn't think I would need any more but I think I am going to get another half dozen made. If you are in need of additional sets, let me know and I will increase the order.

Take care and stay on the hunt!!

Kindest Personal Regards,

Jack

I am still searching for a first year model, never found even a beater. While I have not picked up any more FNs it would be neat to have one matching a model 8 serial number.
