250 grain spire points

Post by eagles »

I currently shoot the lever evolution 200 grain spire points in my model 8. Are there any 250 grain spire points that anyone uses ? I'm wondering if they are too long for the case ?

Most are for too high a velocity for our ladies, there are a few that may fit.
But they typically will not expand, try the 220g you may have better luck and a flatter trajectory.

a 250 grain spire hollowpoint would be nice , but what 220 grain slugs are you referring to ?

The Speer, Sierra, and Noslers in the 220-225g range should give you the extra punch you are asking about. However, keep in mind more mass gives more rainbow trajectory. Plus the effective range for terminal expansion drops as well.
It sounds like you are after more dangerous game. I for one avoid hunting anything that can have Me for lunch on it's own turf. The slower the velocity, the closer your target gets to You.

Thanks ! Well, I hunt Boar now and then , have bagged them with Bow , flintlock and lever. Great penetration is a good idea on them. Also for a close range Elk shot it would be nice.Since we can use spitzers I was wondering who had tried them in a 25o grain. I also posted a question on the 180 grain tipped spitzer copper slug which seems like a good choice for velocity, drop and deer size game. the .358 woodleigh hydrostatic round , solid brass that uses a shock wave developed from the frontal cavity and does not expand at all but leaves huge exit holes would also be great at close range, but I'm sure its way to long for the case to hold enough powder.
