Stamp on barrel jacket ?

Post by uhjohnson »

I just got this m8 serial number 25593 with a high patent date of 1902 (i think it is too early for the gun) and the barrel is marked 30-30Rem all in all the gun is in great shape for 310.00, no rust 85%, unmolested round knob. I bought this gun because it has been tapped for a weaver #4 mount, something i would not do, but want to see how it will shoot with a scope My question is what is this stamp on the right side of the barrel jacket head

The stamp of "RP enclosed in a circle" on the right side of the barrel jacket means..."Remington Proof".

Yes there is a small hairline crack about 1/2 inch, how did you know, it is tight and does not open when flexed
