Gawrsh Mickey ! We are going to have to go back and change all the literature to include the 5th chambering of 300 Savage in the Model 8. Holy Latenight toil and trouble Batman ! This rare rifle will probably command a zillion $`s. What a prize to add to the collection.

True dat, Joe!
LOL....seriously, though why is it like a law of nature or something that any gun on GB you really want to look over in detail is conspicuously lacking good pictures? Not that I believe it is original, I just like those rebuild/repair codes on the barrel jacket.
At the price people are bidding on now, it's good for a mixmaster or parts gun though.

Guns America has a nice chrome plated Model 8 in 25 Winchester Short Mag. You might have to dig deep into your references to find that one.

This hybrid Model 8 with a .300 barrel is just about to be done. Now that the seller posted some pics from the bottom of the receiver, I notice that the s/n of the receiver matches the barrel jacket head - 38922 "circle K" - yet the barrel jacket topside has the date/rebuild code of LJ3 above what may read as XSS6.
Mysterious!
The date codes - if I read them correctly - are from 1940 and 1947, first one would be a return/repair other would be Canadian sale code, correct? Again, that's my eyes.
If we interpret the jacket head and receiver s/n in terms of Model 81 rather than Model 8 production runs, that 38922 would place it in 1947/1948 or so. So perhaps the receiver and barrel/jacket match. Rest is a Model 8.
Notice the problem?
Those markings we should see on the receiver - indicating Model 81 - do not appear. Thus, we are left to interpret those s/n markings as a Model 8, which would be 1916 or 1917.
The mysteries abound!!
Anyway, just my random and probably incorrect observations! Something to pass the time. I like solving mysteries, too.

I was kind of hoping that whoever won this auction was also a member of the forum, so we might get a chance to learn about what this Model 8 with 81 barrel and barrel jacket was like "under the skin".....
But probably, we'll never know. I just thought the barrel jacket with repair code and possibly a Canadian sales code was interesting.

My guess is rifle was made in 1917, looks like two factory repair codes 1940 & 1947. Was it factory converted to 300Sav? There's no way to ever know. The two factory repairs could have been something entirely unrelated.
