Hey everybody, I just received my new rifle (new to me) and I'll be posting some pictures of it this weekend, when I have the extra time to take pictures and post them. It's a very unique Model 8 in 35 Rem and I'll share the rest of the story, with pictures soon. Stay tuned in folks! You won't want to miss out on seeing this "F" grade.

Ok guys, Here it is... It's my new my new 1911 Remington Model 8 "F" grade in 35 Rem. I call it my "Folk Art" rifle! Hence, the "F" grade for "Folk Art".

This rifle sports a factory checkered English walnut stock that is numbered to the rifle and the feathering in the wood is really beautiful. The barrel jacket is a factory engraved jacket from a 1908 Model 8. The rest of the engraving is what I refer to as "Folk Art" !

The "Folk Art" engraving in no way mimics the factory engraving found on the barrel jacket, but this rifle has it own unique flair! The wildlife engraving consist of a Buck & a Doe breeding on the left side panel of the receiver (Wow, you don't see that too often & the first one that I've seen), along with a bull Moose. The right side panel has a Bear and a Hunter holding the barrel of his rifle, with his "Harvested Buck", hanging from a tree. The top of the receiver has a Wolf's head and the rest of the receiver has Pine Bowes, Pine Cones, Oak Leafs and scroll engraving. I think this rifle belonged to an Old Indian Chief, named "Two Deer Breeding". :D

The rifle was very well cared for throughout the years and it sports a Lyman Express two leaf rear sight and a Marble's Sheard front sight. The bore is crisp and clean too. I can not wait to put a few rounds down the pipe!

I want to give a very "BIG Thank You" to ROBOPUMP, for giving me the heads-up on this one. I truly appreciate it Rob!

This rifle is going to see the northern Michigan woods this coming deer season and it has found a new happy home.

The rifle is just a very unique "Folk Art" Remington Model 8, with its own unique flair. Hey, got to love it when you find a "F" grade like this one. We're going to enjoy this one folks!

Enjoy Life, Bob @ S and S HUNTCLUB

Hey there Bob,
I'm looking forward to seeing the pics of your new F grade when you get them posted. It sounds like it'll be great.
Also, I'm still wondering if you guys know anything about the barrel address on my 30/30 rem. Round knob m-8?
Thanks for your time,
Roger

Hey Bob,
That's a really good looking M-8. It also seems to have an "interesting" background! The wood is quite stunning in it's beauty.
What a nice addition to your stable up there in Michigan. Good luck at the range,I wish i could be up there with you to shoot it.
Most all my 35s,shoot well.
Thanks,
Roger

Thanks for the kind comments guys! To answer your question Dennis. Yes, the Moose is talking on the phone, he's actually talking to the Bear, way over on the other side of the receiver! I got a good chuckle when I read that Dennis.

That's the beauty of the "Folk Art" rifles. Everyone sees something in their own way and I had never noticed the phones. I loved the comment!

It is a cool piece of folkart ... it's not everyday you see 2 deer doin the humpity hump on a hump back rifle. I will stop with the bad jokes now. :D

S&S! This is a family friendly website! This rifle brings new meaning to the term "gun porn" :o

Okay all joking aside, I can really appreciate the work put into this gun. This gun was some guy's pride & joy! It's a one-of-a-kind that's for sure too. I'm also impressed with how well kept the rifle is, the condition is really nice :) What doesn't surprise me is that S&S acquired this, you guys find the coolest guns out there, congratulations on this one, it'll be hard to beat on the "cool" factor

Well the rut is on it's way you , so maybe the engraving scenes are a preview of what lies ahead ;)

Hey Bob,

You have added another fine rifle to your stable. You don't see engraved rifles very often and as this one demonstrates, there are no two alike. The previous owner must have been a true outdoorsman and a hunter. So much so he captured his enthusiasm in a very permanent way on his model 8. Congratulations on your find.

Regards,

Jack

The gun porn as Cam put it, has got me all excited about the up coming deer season, so I added few pictures of the wood!

The wood is in very fine shape and the wood grain just dances. This Model 8 has a very cool looking "blond" butt stock & forearm, which is a bit different look than the darker walnut furniture.

Thanks Jack! This rifle is a keeper for me, just because of the hunting scenes. The engraver must have enjoyed hunting, as much as our family does. It does not get any better, than a day in the woods with a vintage autoloader!

What a neat rifle Bob....one of a kind.

You are right about a day in the woods with a vintage autoloader...I am using my Grandfather's 1911, Model 8, 30 Rem for deer this year, and my 1947 Model 81, 35 Rem for elk. Haven't found a buck yet, but I did jump six elk last Friday at about 6000' in the Cascade Mtns., but I couldn't see their heads to see if any were bulls.

But I love hunting with these old rifles.

Clint

About 2006 I realized I had become a sucker for nice wood. I began buying guns in part or because of wood looks.

This gun has that for sure. Did you do the engraving yourself?

*I am really tired just now and recovering from flu so maybe I missed part of your post....if it said you engraved it yourself.
