Barrel Switch Out?

Post by Headoftheholler »

What all is involved (parts wise) beside the barrel and shroud in switching a model 8 from .30 to .35?

Hey Headoftheholler,

It would be my suggestion that you not do this. There are issues which can cause problems and I won't go into all of them. It would be better to find a .35 and they are not hard to find and are fairly reasonable.

Having said this, the springs are different due to recoil, the head spacing is different, the magazine retention is different because the cartridge is a different size. Take care.

Something like your request can be done, However the difference in bolt faces and springs is cost prohibitive. You could probably buy a couple rifles for the expense.
An example of what can be done:

Pay special attention to the calibers, they all have the same case head. The 30Rem and 35Rem are DIFFERENT :!: :!:
Good luck hope you find a way. I've gone with Contenders.

You can convert anything to anything else if you are willing to throw enough money into it. But that's something that I wouldn't spend any money to do.

Anybody know of a conversion to 6.8 SPC yet?

Several times in the past I have suggested the 6.8 SPC would be a prime candidate caliber if the Model 8/81 ever went back into production. About the only modification needed would be a new barrel, and probably some recoil spring strength adjustment, as the 6.8 case base is the same as the ..25/.30/.32 Remington case.

thanks, just getting frustrated with this barrel nut holding up the rebluing + I cant find 30 rem anywhere and don't reload.
35 rem would be perfect for me.
Anyone wanna trade barreled actions sans stock sets? lol

It would be much cheaper to take up reloading for the .30.
