Was the .300 Savage made in the Model 8?

Howdy,
Here is another question from a guy who is still learning. I was talking with a guy the other day about the Remington Model 8. One thing led to another and he asked me if I had a Model 8 in the .300 Savage. I said "No, I didn't know they made a Model 8 in .300 Savage". He told me he had one. I did not argue the point, because I am still learning what is out there.
I was wondering, if he has one, is it a Remington factory built or could it be made from parts from a Model 8 and parts from the Model 81. I thought I would ask the question here before posting something on The Remington Society website. I have read where some guys have mixed components to come up with hybrids and could this be another? How safe would the "custom" built be? Are hybrid rifles something that novices should stay clear from buying?
I look forward to the answers on this topic!!
