Remington Model 8. ser# 158

Post by Blastattack »

At a gunshow here in Calgary AB. There is a nice Model 8 here, $295. No bluing left, whole gun is covered in a brown patina, appears te be in perfect mechanical function, bore is described as very good. .35 Remington caliber. First year production, ser# 158. If it doesn't sell you can call the guy at 1-403-554-1653. I have no association with the seller, just though y'all might wan to know.

~Cheers!

That is a GREAT price, hope one of you guys up north can get it.
I tried to get one from there down here once - it was not easy or cheap - ultimately failed.

I second that, great price, and we'd love to see photos! Thanks for the heads up Blastattack. You just never know what'll pop up at a gunshow.

I managed to snap a few with my iPhone. I can get them posted sometime tommorrow. I really should have bought it though...

There was another one there to, 104xx range, .35 Remington, the guy wanted $475 for it. however it had a good dent in the barrel jacket and the receiver had this washed out brownish/grey color. Looked like someone painted on some really dirty water and let it dry. Oddly enough the barrel jacket had a good 80-90% bluing in it, which means it may have been replaced at some point. I didn't give it much notoce because it wasn't too pretty a gun.

Saw an M8 like that once, very ugly - dealer told me that someone had used Naval Jelly on it, I also passed on it.

Blastattack, did you happen to notice if this rifle had the caliber engraved on top of the barrel jacket extension? There was a discussion recently here on this forum about another very early m-8 that had no caliber marking at all.Just my curiosity at work here. I always thought that they were all engraved with the caliber designation, but that may actually not be the case. Just wanting to learn more here.
Thanks for your time

I feel silly for not buying it. I should have snapped it up, but oh well.

I believe it did. I think it was stamped ".35 Caliber" in a scriptive font. Dammnit I wish I had bought the thing! Never again, next time I see a deal, it's mine!
